Here is a confession: about 70% of the clients who book a skin consultation with us at Lyv think they have “dry skin”. About 70% of those are actually dehydrated. Dry and dehydrated sound the same in casual conversation, but they are entirely different problems, and the second one is much more common, much easier to fix, and the single biggest reason skin looks tired, lined, dull or off. The Phyris AQUActive range is, in our entirely biased professional opinion, one of the smartest tools for fixing it.
This is your complete guide to the Phyris AQUActive range (the new name for what was previously the Phyris Hydro Active line), the three-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid technology behind it, every product in the family, and how to use them to get the kind of plump, dewy, lit-from-within skin that makes people quietly ask what you are using.
Before we talk about the AQUActive range itself, we need to sort out a piece of vocabulary that quietly trips up half the skincare-buying population.
Dry skin is a skin type. It is largely genetic, runs from childhood, and means your skin produces less sebum (oil) than average. Dry skin tends to feel rough, look matte to flaky, and prefers richer, more emollient products. Dry skin types make up perhaps 15-20% of the population.
Dehydrated skin is a skin condition. Anyone, dry, normal, combination, even oily, can have dehydrated skin. It means the skin is short of water specifically (not oil). Dehydrated skin tends to feel tight, look dull, show fine lines more prominently, sometimes go shiny in the T-zone while feeling tight on the cheeks, and reacts more easily to active ingredients. Dehydrated skin is epidemic. Most people have it at least some of the time.
The reason this matters: dry skin needs oil and lipids; dehydrated skin needs water. The Phyris AQUActive range is built for the water problem, and given how common chronic low-grade dehydration is in modern lives (central heating, air conditioning, alcohol, late nights, screen time, urban environments, salty food, frequent travel), it is the range that quietly transforms more complexions in our pharmacy than any other.
“Most people who think they are dry are actually dehydrated. Get the diagnosis right, and the products start working.”
The Phyris AQUActive range (formerly Phyris Hydro Active) is the brand’s dedicated hydration line, a family of premium skincare products built around an unusually clever multi-molecular hyaluronic acid system designed to deliver water to multiple layers of the skin simultaneously and lock it in place over time.
Phyris’s tagline for the range is “the moisture booster for thirsty skin”, and that is a fair summary of what it does. AQUActive is not trying to treat ageing, blemishes or sensitivity, those are jobs for other Phyris ranges. AQUActive’s one job is hydration, and it does that job at a level that puts most “hyaluronic acid” products in the high-street market to shame.
The result: skin that looks visibly plumper, feels more comfortable, holds makeup better, looks more even in tone, and ages more slowly because dehydrated skin lines crease faster and stay creased longer. Hydration is not glamorous. It is foundational. The AQUActive range is the foundation laid properly.

Here is where AQUActive gets interesting.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is not one thing. It is a family of molecules with the same chemical backbone but different chain lengths, and chain length matters enormously for how the molecule behaves on skin. Most affordable “hyaluronic acid” products use one or two molecular weights and call it a day. AQUActive uses three different forms of hyaluronic acid working together, each targeting a different layer of the skin and a different aspect of the hydration job.
A high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, multi-lamellar encapsulated, meaning it is wrapped in microscopic layered carriers that release the active in a sustained, time-released manner. The “depot” name is literal: this version creates a moisture reservoir in the skin that continuously releases hydration over hours, preventing the tight, dehydrated feeling that develops as the day wears on.
Think of Depot Hyaluron as a slow-drip irrigation system for your face.
A high-molecular-weight biotechnological hyaluronic acid that coats the skin’s surface like a fine moisturising net. It plumps fine lines, smooths the surface, and gives skin its immediately dewy, glassy finish. Classic Hyaluron is the workhorse, the version that gives you the immediate “ohh, this feels good” sensation on application.
This is the elegant one. Tremella fuciformis, also known as Chinese silver ear or snow mushroom, is a traditional East Asian beauty ingredient that produces a polysaccharide chemically similar to hyaluronic acid but with smaller molecular weight and additional mineral content. It penetrates more deeply than conventional HA, supplies trace minerals, and contributes a softening, plumping effect that pairs beautifully with the other two.
Hyaluron Equivalent is the layer that addresses what surface-level hyaluronic acid cannot, the deeper hydration story.
A single hyaluronic acid can hydrate one layer of the skin at one rate. Three molecular weights together can hydrate the surface (Classic), the deeper layers (Hyaluron Equivalent) and provide sustained release over time (Depot), all at once. The result is hydration that feels immediate and lasts; that plumps the surface and nourishes deeper; that you actually notice 4, 6 and 10 hours after application, not just for the first thirty minutes.
This is why AQUActive products feel different from most “hyaluronic acid serums” on the market. They are not doing one thing well. They are doing three things at once.

Here is every product in the Phyris AQUActive range, in roughly the order you would build a routine.
The hero of the range. A lightweight serum containing all three hyaluronic acid types in concentrated form, designed to be the first treatment step after cleansing and SOMI. Hydrates intensively, plumps fine dehydration lines, and primes the skin for everything that follows. If you only buy one AQUActive product, buy this one.
The daily moisturiser of the range. Creamy, comforting texture with Depot Hyaluron and Hyaluron Equivalent at its heart. Locks in hydration, leaves the skin feeling plumped and protected, and pairs beautifully with the Hyaluron Serum underneath. Brilliant for dehydrated combination or normal skin.
A lighter, gel-textured moisturiser for oilier skin types, hotter weather, or anyone who finds traditional creams too heavy. Same hyaluronic technology, water-light finish. We often recommend this as a morning moisturiser for clients who use a richer cream at night.
A dedicated eye care product with the same hyaluronic complex calibrated for the thinner, more delicate eye area. Smooths fine dehydration lines around the eyes, plumps the under-eye, and supports a more rested look. Use morning and night with the ring finger (the weakest of your fingers, the eye area thanks you).
An often-overlooked star. The skin on the back of your hands ages faster than the skin on your face, it is thinner, has fewer sebaceous glands, and gets more UV exposure than almost any other part of the body. AQUActive Hyaluron Hands brings the same triple-hyaluronic technology to a richer hand cream with added almond oil, and it is a small life-changer for anyone over 35.
The weekly hydration intensive. A treatment mask, usable once or twice a week, that floods the skin with hyaluronic complex and leaves it looking visibly plumper and more glowing within fifteen minutes. Brilliant before an event, after a flight, or as a regular weekly ritual.
Smaller-format intensive treatments, concentrated capsules and overnight sleep masks that boost the range when your skin needs more than a serum can deliver. Particularly useful in winter, during travel, or when you have over-exfoliated and need to repair the barrier quickly.
A “no-makeup makeup” tinted moisturiser with the triple-hyaluronic system inside it, so you get the hydration and the light coverage in one step. Brilliant for travel and weekends.
Therapist’s note from Roxanne: “If a client comes in with dehydrated skin and limited budget, I send them home with three things: AQUActive Hyaluron Serum, AQUActive Hyaluron Cream, and a high-grade SPF. That trio alone fixes more skin problems than any expensive new gadget.
In practice, almost every Phyris routine we design at Lyv includes at least one AQUActive product. Hydration is the foundation. Get it right, and everything else works better.
Here are three template routines, ranging from simple to comprehensive.
Morning 1. Phyris cleansing milk or gel. 2. Phyris tonic. 3. AQUActive Hyaluron Serum. 4. AQUActive Hyaluron Gel (or Cream for drier skin). 5. AQUActive Hyaluron Eye. 6. Broad-spectrum SPF 50.
Evening 1. Double cleanse. 2. Tonic. 3. AQUActive Hyaluron Serum. 4. AQUActive Hyaluron Cream. 5. AQUActive Hyaluron Eye.
Morning 1. Cleanse, tonic. 2. Phyris SOMI (TERMASOMI for amplification or ULTRASOMI for tired skin). 3. AQUActive Hyaluron Serum. 4. Antioxidant booster (e.g. Time Release Vitamin Flash), optional but excellent. 5. AQUActive Hyaluron Cream or Gel. 6. AQUActive Hyaluron Eye. 7. SPF 50.
Evening 1. Double cleanse, tonic. 2. AQUActive Hyaluron Serum. 3. Active treatment (Time Release Retinol Anti-Age 2-3 nights weekly, or another targeted serum). 4. AQUActive Hyaluron Cream (or FoREST Rich Cream on retinol nights). 5. Eye care.
Weekly - AQUActive Hyaluron Sensation Mask 1-2 times per week. - AQUActive Hyaluron Hands at least once weekly (more often if you can).
Morning: cleansing milk → tonic → SOMI → AQUActive Hyaluron Serum → Time Release Vitamin Flash → AQUActive Hyaluron Gel → AQUActive Hyaluron Eye → SPF 50.
Evening: oil cleanse → gel cleanse → tonic → AQUActive Hyaluron Serum → Time Release Retinol Anti-Age (alternate nights) → FoREST Rich Cream or Triple A Retinol Cream → AQUActive Hyaluron Eye or richer eye product.
Weekly: AQUActive Hyaluron Sensation Mask twice weekly; alternate with FoREST Mask; Triple A Retinol Mask once on a non-retinol week. Monthly: Phyris professional facial.
The point is not to use every product, it is to know what is available so you can build something that fits your life.
Lyv tip: Hyaluronic acid serums work better when you apply them to damp (not soaking, not dry) skin and immediately follow with a moisturiser. This gives the HA molecules water to draw from and locks them in.

AQUActive is the most layerable Phyris range. It pairs with essentially everything because hydration is universal. A few combinations we use constantly at Lyv:
The pattern is consistent: AQUActive provides the foundational hydration layer, and other Phyris ranges add the specific intervention your skin needs.
Even the best hydrating products will not work if you are undermining them. Here are the most common mistakes we see at Lyv:
1. Applying hyaluronic acid to bone-dry skin in a dry environment. Hyaluronic acid works by attracting water, if there is no water around (in your skin or in the air), it can pull water out of deeper skin layers, ironically making you more dehydrated. Always apply to damp skin and follow with a moisturiser. In very dry environments (long-haul flights, winter heating), a humidifier helps.
2. Skipping hydration because you have oily skin. Oil and water are different. Oily, dehydrated skin is a real and very common condition. Adding hydration often reduces oil production over time because the skin stops compensating.
3. Using one hyaluronic product and expecting miracles. Dehydration is a chronic condition, not a one-product fix. AQUActive’s whole architecture (serum + cream + mask + eye + sleep) exists because real hydration is built layer by layer.
4. Not addressing the root cause. If your daily diet is low in water and high in alcohol, caffeine and salt, and you sleep five hours a night, no product is going to win. Topical skincare amplifies a hydrated life, it does not replace one.
5. Throwing out the moisturiser when you start using a serum. A serum complements a moisturiser; it does not replace it. The serum delivers actives; the moisturiser seals them in. Skip the second step and your serum’s benefits will evaporate (literally) within an hour.
6. Ignoring the eye area. The skin around the eyes is some of the thinnest on the body and dehydrates fastest. An eye-specific product like AQUActive Hyaluron Eye genuinely matters from your thirties onwards.
Lyv tip: Drink water, sleep seven hours, layer your hydration, never skip moisturiser, never skip SPF, and the skin you have at 50 will look like the skin you had at 35. Sad? A bit. True? Completely.
